The Garland Dog Friendly Review

The Garland is a traditional English pub, situated in north east Ipswich.   Overlooking open countryside the Garland is very accessible from the main Woodbridge Road, and has a sunny spacious garden.  Dog bowls outside signal a caring landlord and on less balmy days dogs are made very welcome in the side bar, where owners can also eat.

The landlord took over the pub in 2009 and is keen to renew the pub’s ties to the community.   In this spirit the Garland offers an active roster of evening entertainments including quiz and karaoke nights, jam sessions and music nights.  There is ample parking for about 30 cars and a well-equipped kid’s play area outside.   Dogs are welcome any time and if going inside must stay in the side bar.  There were two other dogs in the bar when we visited; so if your dog is curious of new faces this may be worth bearing in mind when planning a visit.

The Garland offers a traditional English menu and all the food is home-cooked, a rare thing these days.  Reasonably priced mains (approx. £7), including veggie options, and supreme steaks (approx. £12) are on offer, as is a BBQ on Saturdays, weather permitting.   A special touch is that anything on the menu can be ordered as a child portion.

The Garland offers a truly warm welcome to dogs and their owners.  The nearest good dog walk can be found at Rushmere Common about 10 minutes away.
