| The Greyhound is what my husband calls a “proper pub”. Situated just out of the centre of town in North Ipswich, on the corner of Henley Road and Anglesea Road, this dog friendly pub has two main bars; a long side lounge and a smaller, cosy front room. Dogs are made very welcome in both bars, with only one end of the lounge reserved for non-doggie owners. To the rear of the pub is a patio area with bench seating where dogs can snooze a sunny afternoon away under the tables. Water bowls can be obtained from the bar.
This lively pub is home to happy band of regulars and many occasional visitors. Offering a wide variety of food options and a great wine selection, this is a pub where the people are the buzz. Unlike many pubs these days, the bars remain free of twittering games machines and a flashing juke box. Instead the pub offers a place to chat and meet new friends. Dogs and well behaved owners are welcome throughout the day and night; with Friday night being the only time when inside the pub may be a bit too busy for larger dogs to enjoy.
The Greyhound is a Suffolk Adnams real ale pub and has a local reputation for good food. The Sunday morning breakfast goes down really well with Kopek and Malli, giving them the opportunity to quality test what a friend of ours describes as a “damn fine” sausage. During the week the pub has a “lunch for a fiver” menu and a great range of specials and mains averaging at about £9 a dish. Under 10’s are welcome in the pub till 5pm and under 18’s before 9.30pm.
The nearest good dog walk is Christchurch Park, which is a short 2 minutes' walk up Henley Road, and there you’ll find 33 hectares for dogs to run about to their hearts content. And work off a few of those sausages! |
